What would it look like if Mothman was recovering from a hard day?

Hand embroidery and acrylic painted Mothman watching TV

Creature Comforts ; Hand Embroidery & Acrylic Paint

Not a single care given that the tipped over bucket that has strewn buttery popcorn across the couch and onto the floor. The entire scene painted in soft pastels and partially embroidered with embroidery floss lends itself to being a gentle vision of a gentle moment filling one’s senses with their own creature comforts.

I plan on expanding this thought and making a whole series entitled: “Occult Classics”. Right now in my life I’m going through some major changes. For this reason I’m leaning hard onto my own creature comforts. As my homelife is morphing, my mom is moving, and so are several friends I’m listening to favorite songs on repeat and eating a few too many pastries.

1st The Not Coven Coven Club

At this time I invite you to consider your own creature comforts. What food do you crave to taste? What scented candle might ease your mind? Whose voice do you want to hear singing and what lines of their songs most resonate? Which words are you belting out with them? What are your personal rituals of self-care?

We’ve stepped into the living room, cozy and humble. Nothing extravagant, but well loved. In this soft pastel landscape there is a little framed art on the wall, a pink oval rug on the cool colored carpet floors, and the blue glow of a playing television. Nestled into the corner of the green loveseat in the middle of the room is Mothman. Taking a break from his work, coming up from the wraths of hell to be a beacon of doom, he’s chill’in on the couch. Under the warm glow of a pink shaded lamp, munching on a favorite treat, his large oval crimson red twinkling eyes are actively hypnotized by a story playing on the tv he’s seen 20x, Tina Fey’s Mean Girls. As we all have been a creature of the night, up late when the whole world has gone to sleep, its just us and our favorite stories playing. Fully immersed in his guilty pleasure, the highs school girl cult-classic, Mothman feasts on a bucket of popcorn. Crumbs gently falling onto his soft round belly.

Back to the art! Eventually I’ll have a show for the work, but until then I want the art and stories to be accessible. So, Ive developed a Spooky Monthly Letter Club. It’s a monthly subscription ($5 for founding members), and with the subscription delivered to every mailbox will be a 5x7 print of the latest Occult Classic, an original shayebebaby sticker, and a hand written letter all wrapped up in spooky and sweet packaging. Oh! almost forgot, it’s going to be called:

The Not Coven Coven Club

This series and this letter club matter to me for a few reasons. One, as a reminder that although you can be a creature of the night you too deserve to have your creature comforts and a little down time to recover. And two, to build connection and make art accessible for whoever it brings joy to. If there’s one things I care deeply about its community. Sometime ago I fell away from it and have been actively rebuilding it. So, for my friends, my good fella weirdos, here is my letter club.
